Day 12 - Cheating happens, right?
Breakfast - 2 eggs
Lunch - Sashimi. Didn't feel like the leftover chicken, so ran to Jungle Jim's, got almond meal, and had the sushi chef make me sashimi. (Sushi without the rice, just the meat) I had tuna, salmon, freshwater eel, and a few other pieces I didn't know the name of. Probably too much salt in their soy sauce, but it was a good lunch. I had some good avacado with it.
Dinner- Yup, we cheated. It was a bad afternoon for the wife and I and both of us decided to get pizza. So we got a pan pizza from Jet's. It was good, I had 4 slices, but not as good as I expected it to be.
Random thoughts:
Day 12 was Thursday
The funny thing, my BM was normal after the pizza, which I didn't expect. Maybe once in a great while having processed food is not going to kill me, as long as it is not the norm. The wife and I both believe in the Paleo diet, I think it is very good for my body considering the IBS issues and lactose intolerant. And the fresh veggies and fruit is very good now that I am used to it. And I feel great. But once in a while, getting something I crave really can help. I feel very satisfied now, and I am looking forward to sticking with my diet as much as I can.
Funny thing, the morning after eating pizza, I'm down another pound. Down 8 pounds in 12 days.

Day 11 - Blah
Breakfast: Couple eggs with green peppers, jalapenos and onion. 2 pieces of bacon.
Lunch: Leftover spicy chicken soup. We froze some last week.
Dinner: Taco salad. Lettuce, Laura's low fat ground beef with homemade taco seasoning (very good) with guacomole, onions, tomatos and salsa on a bed of iceberg lettuce. Not bad, but not the same without nacho chips and cheese.
Snack: Orange, banannas, carrots through day. A few pieces of beef jerky after dinner.

I do not have cravings per se, but I want some different food. The fresh food is awesome, but man, this is hard. We are over 1/3 the way there. I am where Krista said she was when she commented on my blog in the first few days. Nothing sounds good. For day 12 I bought some ribeye steaks to make, can't wait.
Insanity day 3 was tough, but the abs and legs are sore, can't wait to see the results.

Day 10 - Chipotle is my friend
Breakfast: Small smoothie. My son didn't drink his strawberry and bananna smoothie for breakfast, so I knocked it out. I had a bananna late morning also.
Lunch: Co-workers had some coupons for buy one, get one free at Chipotle. First time I have eaten out in 10 days. My wife had read that Chipotle was ok for Paleo, as long as you didn't get the obvious things like cheese, rice, beans and dressing. So I got a Carnitas salad. Lettuce, carnitas, lots of green pepper and onions (after asking 3 times for more and more), mild tomato salsa, medium green salsa, and guacamole (HUGE spoonful of it) Here is a cool link if you like Chipotle and want to see the calories in one. Chipotle calculator Not something to eat everyday by any means, but a nice change. On a side note, I had a small BM after lunch, which has only happened one other time since I started paleo and that was on day 8, and I think my stomach was upset. So I'm sure Chipotle was cooked in some processed stuff, which I expected. It wasn't the same as pre-paleo with the tortilla shell, cheese and rice, but still, interesting to note.
Dinner: Salad with a Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette by Ken's. The wife and I have not been satisfied with the homemade salad dressings, so we caved and got this, which we ate pre-paleo. 6g of sugar in 1 serving, we wil deal with it. Also, had leftover roast from Sunday night.
Snacks: Bananna and orange at work and 4 pieces of beef jerky after dinner. And LOTS of water, especially after working out. Enough freaking water I count it as a snack today.

Really suprised how little I am eating now, granted my chipotle lunch was big, so that probably filled me up for the day. The cravings are gone, and I am used to eating fruit all the time. I really enjoy oranges and banannas. I am not a big apple fan, so I don't eat many of them. The wife and kids do though. I also eat some carrots, here and there. Have to make another fruit run today. We are going through fruit like it is out of style.

Burn fat with intervals of intense lower-body plyo and sweat-inducing cardio. (42 minutes)"
It was crazy hard, but it was fun doing with the wife. I like to talk and pump her up, she looks at me and wants to punch me in the face and to tell me to STFU. At the end, I was on the ground, with head laying on carpet watching them go and I couldn't move legs. My legs were shot at the end of the workout. We took extra breaks, they only did 30 second water breaks, and we are not that in shape, YET. It was tough, tough, tough, but amazing afterwards. I felt really good. Went to sleep at 9:30pm though.

Day 9 - Insanity
Breakfast: Worked from home today, so had time to make a 3 egg omelet. 3 eggs, green peppers, onion, tomato and ham. The one on Sunday was much better, but this was still filling.
Lunch: Leftover chicken egg salad from Sunday. Didn't eat much, I worked out before eating and ate lunch around 2:30pm.
Dinnner: Tilapia fillets baked in olive oil and lemon juice topped with a few spices. Squash and onions with olive oil drizzled on it with rosemary on it, baked. The squash was horrid, not cooked long enough, and I decided I am not a big rosemary fan. Wife and I both did not eat the veggies. Not sure if tilapia is a dry fish or just overcooked. If I recall, it is just a dryer fish. Dinner was a D last night. I should punch the cook in the face. Oh that's right, it was me. I can't hurt myself, that would be sad. I am a winner and have tigerblood!
Snacks: Smoothie with banannas, strawberries and coconut milk after dinner. Made beef jerky yesterday, so I snacked on that all day in the afternoon when it was done. I cooked it too long, so it was a little tough, but still edible. I must have ate alot, I farted last night in bed and the wife was disgusted, more than usual, and said it smelled like I ate all the beef jerky. HAHAHA. Sorry, couldn't pass up that story, even if about farts.

Almond meal/almond flour. Finding it at Whole Foods has been hard. The wife went on Sunday and they said it would be on the truck on Monday. So I went on Monday at lunch and it still wasn't in. They said hopefully Wednesday's truck. I might go to Jungle Jim's today at lunch since I work by it. Need almond flour to make some paleo cookies and pancakes.
Started Insanity workouts yesterday. I have been looking for something to do to put exercise in with the Paleo lifestyle. Running is good, but it is not quite warm enough yet. So I was surfing the web last week and ran across Insanity. This is the same company that does P90x. My wife uses their Power90 exercises, which is a step down from P90x. Insanity interested me because it is all cardio and you use your body as weight resistance, instead of bands and pullup bars like the P90x. To burn the flab off, I decided to try it. Day 1 of 60 was Monday and it was a fitness test. Only 25 minutes long and you wrote down results of stuff they had you do, like power kicks, squat jumps or jumping jack pushups. (Do a pushup and move legs like a jumping jack at same time) They don't recommend this for people out of shape. I am flabby, but still active, so I don't think I am horribly out of shape. Plus I wanted to be pushed, and drip sweat. Well this did it. My shirt was soaked after 25 minutes and I even went upstairs and threw up a little bit in the bathroom. It probably took me an over to recover, but a few hours later, I felt great. Looking forward to day 2 tonight. It is 45 minute workout or so. Plan to do it when I get home before dinner.
And I got the wife to do it with me. She did the fit test as well. It is tough, but I think it will be good for both of us. We are going to try and do it at the same time tonight, there should be enough room in the basement.

Day 8 - Unloading boxes is a good workout
Breakfast: Made western omelets. Diced up ham, green peppers, onions, spinach and tomato. 3 eggs per omelet, cooked in olive oil. Very good and full.
Lunch: Ate lunch slowly as I was still full from breakfast and helping a friend unload his stuff into his new house. Ate "Everything but the kitchen sink" salad. I think it had broccoli, cabbage, parsley, hard boiled eggs, boiled chicken breast and some kind of dijon mustard dressing. It was like a egg-chicken salad you get and put on a sandwich. It was actually quite good.
Dinner: Roast with carrots and onions. Very juicy. I wasn't really hungry, unloading boxes for 3 hours, I came home and crashed for a couple hours. Made myself eat small dinner around 8pm.
Snacks: Orange. Not hungry today. Guess craving are going down.

Helped a friend move today. They built a new house and moved into temporary place after selling old house. All their stuff was in one of those "pods" besides what wasn't in the rental. It was a great workout, my legs were shot at the end.
Wasn't really hungry today, just wanted to drink lots of water. Guess my body is slowly changing in it's eating habits. A week ago I couldn't stop eating. I'm into week 2 now.

Day 7 - Eggs again....
Breakfast: 2 eggs and 2 slices bacon with coffee. Just not the same with sunny side eggs with no toast to wipe up the yolk.
Lunch: 3 or 4 slices of rolled up Sara Lee turkey lunch meat. Kind of bland, gonna add avacado slices to the meat when they are rolled next time.
Dinner: Salomon, cooked perfectly, topped with garlic and some other good spices. Asparagus, carrots and cauliflower.
Snacks: Late morning, some beef jerky while at basketball. Afternoon was half an orange. After dinner ate banana with almond butter in middle.
Random thoughts: I thought it would be tough, was on the go from 8am to 4pm with my son, basketball tournament, lost in car for 2 hours trying to find baseball camp on other side of town, and then little league baseball tryouts. The wife had my daughter for indoor soccer and basketball tournament. But I guess since the cravings are gone, I survived staring at the soft pretzels, cookies and other junk food at basketball. Packing a cooler with food is work, but on top of feeling good, we are saving alot of money on takeout.
And we are paying off the Hyundai Santa Fe on Monday with Uncle Sam's refund, so we are one step closer to being out of debt.

Day 6 - Ready for weekend
Breakfast: 2 eggs and 2 slices bacon.
Lunch: Hamburger with sauteed onions and green peppers. Half an orage. 6 oz. smoothie with banana, 1 tsp. vanilla extract and coconut milk.
Dinner: Some kind of pork stew cooked all day in the crockpot. The pork tenderloin fell apart, had cauliflower in it as well. Very good flavor.
Snacks: Almonds, homemade trailmix, banana.
Random thoughts: Not too much, ready for weekend. Saturday is going to be long day, running kids everywhere. Out of house from about 9am until 4pm. Wife packed food, we will see how I hold out. Lunch meat is itinerary for lunch, hopefully lots of veggies and fruit. Cravings aren't existent, even though I still want evil food like Penn Station or wings all the time. I miss "being satisfied" after eating, IE, full belly and stuffed. But I know that is not healthy, and that is why I am fat. So I have to learn to eat smart. It is just tough.
Losing 7 lbs. in first 6 days makes it worth it though.

Day 5 - Eating fresh is very time consuming
Breakfast: Switched it up. Wifey made kids and eggs (1 for me cooked in olive oil) and bacon before she left for work, and COFFEE like usual. Plus feeds the dogs. And I just wake the kids up and scoot them out the door. She is so much more awesome than me.
Lunch: 1 Egg fritatta around 11:30, and then leftover chicken curry with brocolli around 1:00pm. Didn't care for the chicken curry, not a curry fan, but as expensive as eating fresh/organic is, I won't waste the food.
Dinner: Burgers and asparagus! Mmmmm. Bought some Laura's lean beef, 8% fat, at Kroger the night before, no grass fed beef at Kroger, so settled for that. Topped the burger with sauteed onions and green peppers, slice of tomato and fresh guacomle. Not gonna lie, it would have been better with a bun and bbq sauce and messy fingers. But it was quite good. Hit the spot. I was in heaven, so I ate a second burger. The asparagus was good too. Both kids ate it, which suprised me.
Snacks: Carrots and banana. Was busy at work, and I think the cravings are going away, so I didn't have the urge to snack all day.
Random thoughts: If not mentioned before, cooking without preboxed food like noodle-roni , mac-n-cheeese orrice-a-roni(processed foods) is so much more time consuming. Before we would grab one of the above out of the pantry, and can of green beans or corn, and some type of fresh meat. Dinner is done in 20 minutes. Even something as simple as burgers with fresh toppings and asparagus is more work. Have to cut the toppings and asapargus. It really helps if you can prepare ahead of time, but that is tough. If you cut the food too early, like days ahead, some of the stuff goes bad. And after dinner and getting the kids to bed, the wife and I have to make meals for the lunch the next day for all 4 of us. Ok, mostly her.
On top of that, if you have kids, you understand, extracuricular activites. Thurday night schedule:
Kids get home at 4:05pm
Daughter has basketball from 5pm-6:30pm
Dinner at 6:45pm
Guitar lessons from 7:30pm-8:30pm for daughter and dad. Normally 8-9, but started early tonight.
Squeeze in homeworks. Luckily there wasn't much last night.
I guess my point is that eating Paleo, or even just fresh/organic if no interest in Paleo, is hard. But the results are awesome. I am writing this on Friday morning, start of day 6, and I am already down 7 lbs. Wife is already down 5 lbs. We both feel better, I'm sleeping better, even though I miss staying up late. Going to bed at 10 might be good, but I hate it. I enjoy being a night owl. But without caffeine and sugar I am ready to crash come 10pm.
By the way, my wife is awesome if you didn't pick that up. Without her, I wouldn't be doing this. She wants me to eat healthier and does alot more than me. Looking forward to Sunday and helping prepare next week's food.

Topped the burger with sauteed onions and green peppers, slice of tomato and fresh guacomle. Not gonna lie, it would have been better with a bun and bbq sauce and messy fingers. But it was quite good. Hit the spot. I was in heaven, so I ate a second burger. The asparagus was good too. Both kids ate it, which suprised me.
Snacks: Carrots and banana. Was busy at work, and I think the cravings are going away, so I didn't have the urge to snack all day.
Random thoughts: If not mentioned before, cooking without preboxed food like noodle-roni , mac-n-cheeese orrice-a-roni(processed foods) is so much more time consuming. Before we would grab one of the above out of the pantry, and can of green beans or corn, and some type of fresh meat. Dinner is done in 20 minutes. Even something as simple as burgers with fresh toppings and asparagus is more work. Have to cut the toppings and asapargus. It really helps if you can prepare ahead of time, but that is tough. If you cut the food too early, like days ahead, some of the stuff goes bad. And after dinner and getting the kids to bed, the wife and I have to make meals for the lunch the next day for all 4 of us. Ok, mostly her.
On top of that, if you have kids, you understand, extracuricular activites. Thurday night schedule:
Kids get home at 4:05pm
Daughter has basketball from 5pm-6:30pm
Dinner at 6:45pm
Guitar lessons from 7:30pm-8:30pm for daughter and dad. Normally 8-9, but started early tonight.
Squeeze in homeworks. Luckily there wasn't much last night.
I guess my point is that eating Paleo, or even just fresh/organic if no interest in Paleo, is hard. But the results are awesome. I am writing this on Friday morning, start of day 6, and I am already down 7 lbs. Wife is already down 5 lbs. We both feel better, I'm sleeping better, even though I miss staying up late. Going to bed at 10 might be good, but I hate it. I enjoy being a night owl. But without caffeine and sugar I am ready to crash come 10pm.
By the way, my wife is awesome if you didn't pick that up. Without her, I wouldn't be doing this. She wants me to eat healthier and does alot more than me. Looking forward to Sunday and helping prepare next week's food.

Day 4 - Girl Scout cookies are pure evil
Breakfast: Egg fritata and one egg cupcake. They are good, but need a change. Bought some egg whites at grocery store tonight.
Lunch: Chicken with green pepper, onions, like a fajita. Good sauce, wife winged it and did good. And it has cumin in it. Got to have some of that. :)
Dinner: Curry chicken with brocolli. Not bad, just not a big fan of curry.
Snacks: Few random nuts, fruit smoothie 1/2 late morning, half with lunch. Bought a nice thermos for smoothies, so I drink as needed. Carrots, hard boiled egg.
Random thoughts: Busy day at work, helped alot. No cravings today. Day 3 was rough for the wife and I. Wife had bad cravings for potato chips at night. Even though we both took frustrations out picking on each other, it is nice to have each other to support and really have someone to hold us accountable. I really want to do this 100% paleo 30 days.
Today, we both felt good, no cravings, no headaches.
We got girl scout cookies yesterday, with the damn cravings. OMG, tagalongs. They are so awesome. But I resisted. The wife put them in the freezer. I get a text message from my daughter this afternoon that our son had opened cookies and ate one. She had one too of course. Well, I get home, and there is 6 tagalongs gone, one whole row plus one. The boy ate a whole row. He has a sweet tooth, had to explain to him that he get snacks with sugars with limited dose. It's not like the kids are 100% paleo, they've had ice cream a couple times this week. Both kids are eating well, they both inhaled the salmon, cauliflower and carrots. Tonight they both surprisingly ate the curry chicken with broccoli. I think they are just adjusting to not as much junk food, sugar, etc. They are actually doing very well, we just have to keep track of what they don't like. So far it is not much.
Tomorrow night we are adjusting schedule, making juicy paleo style burgers, no buns or cheese, that zapamamk suggested in a comment on my post for day 3. Stopped by the grocery store tonight, got more fruits, carrots, and ground beef for tomorrow night. We are eating lots of smoothies with coconut milk, some type of berry, and some ice. Experimenting with a little vanilla extract, nutmeg, almond butter and banana, etc. in the smoothies.

Day 3 - Cravings suck
Breakfast: First day in office. I worked from home yesterday. Leftover frittata at 8:45am and 1 egg cupcake about 10:30am. Trying to eat something small every 2 hours or so to keep away hunger pains.
Lunch: Leftover shrimp and beef stirfry and 6 oz. smoothie. Raspberry, vanilla cocunut milk and almond butter. Need to work on the smoothies.
Dinner: Salmon, green beans, cauliflower and carrots.
Snacks: Soy nuts, walnuts, almonds, celery with almond butter, other half of smoothie, 1 egg cooked sunny side up in olive oil when I got home from work starving.
Random Thoughts:
Cravings suck. I was fine all day until on the way home I was very crabby and needed an Bacon, Egg and Cheese mcgriddle from McDonald's. Settled for a sunny side up egg in olive oil before dinner. Between 4pm-6pm is hardest time for me, before dinner.
Felt really good this morning. Went to bed at 11, probably fell asleep around 11:20, got a good 7.5 hours sleep. Which for me is ALOT. The funny thing is last night, I didn't feel like I was dragging around 9pm as I lie on the couch watching tv at wife. Before I started the Paleo thing, my night consisted of the following: watch tv and sit at computer desk playing a video game or surfing the web to stay awake. Drink a lo-carb Monster or Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Mountain Dew. If I would lay on the couch and watch tv, I usually fall asleep within 20 minutes with my standard line to the wife being "Don't delete it on the dvr, going to go to sleep" But last night, I layed there and stayed awke, not playing video games to stay awake but just on the couch. Granted I don't always fall asleep on couch, but I am addicted to caffeine and it is my crutch at night. Last night I felt good, no hunger pains, sustained level of energy. Now the wife is going through potato chip and chocolate withdrawl.
